Giving Thanks
Award-winning journalist and UVA alumna Katie Couric recently shared a message of gratitude with UVA Cancer Center. In the video below, she thanks Dr. Michael E. Williams, MD, for over 30 years of exceptional patient care and his legacy of support for the Couric family. Dr. Williams is a world-leading expert in non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, mantle cell lymphoma, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He treated Couric’s mother, Elinor, and sister Emily, the late Virginia state Senator whose support for expanding cancer care in the commonwealth is reflected in the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center at UVA Health.
Dr. Williams, the Byrd S. Leavell Professor of Medicine and a professor of pathology at UVA School of Medicine, recently stepped back from clinical practice to focus on researching new treatments for leukemia and lymphoma. Couric’s brother, John, and nephew, Martin, are volunteer members of the UVA Cancer Center Advisory Board.
