Letter from the Executive Director

It’s been an amazing past few months at UVA Health, with abundant generosity and many accomplishments to celebrate. 

As you’ll read in this edition of PULSE, UVA Cancer Center was awarded Comprehensive Cancer Center status from the National Cancer Institute, recognizing our leadership in cancer research and opening the door for our patients to access more clinical trials and advanced therapies. We are also excited to introduce you to Dr. Melina Kibbe, who discusses her new role as dean of the School of Medicine, her research passions, and what led her to UVA Health. 

Likewise, UVA Health CEO and Executive VP for Health Affairs Dr. Craig Kent reflects on the exciting research and health initiatives that bring hope and healing across an expanded UVA Health – now including clinics and three new community hospitals in Northern Virginia. This edition also features a heartwarming story of how a young liver transplant recipient faces life with great joy.
