A special event highlighted UVA's leadership in personalized cancer treatment.

The event was hosted by the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center Advisory Board at the Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville on September 21, 2022. It featured opening remarks from Dr. Tom Loughran, Director of the Cancer Center, and presentations from Natasha Diba Sheybani, PhD, Assistant Professor, Biomedical Engineering, and Research Director, UVA Focused Ultrasound Cancer Immunotherapy Center, and Patrick M. Dr. Sheybani, described her trailblazing research into a game-changing soundwave technology called focus ultrasound, which offers exciting opportunities for non-invasive, precision management of many types of cancer, including melanomas, breast cancer, and brain tumors. Dr. Dillon, a noted oncologist and breast cancer specialist, enlightened the audience with his overview of groundbreaking clinical trials and targeted therapies happening today at UVA Cancer Center.

During his remarks, Dr. Loughran expressed gratitude for the philanthropic support that enables the Cancer Center and faculty like Dr. Sheybani and Dr. Dillon to make transformational scientific discoveries and treatment innovations for today’s and tomorrow’s patients.
