Care in the Community

UVA nurses take their expertise on the road to reach more patients in Charlottesville.

Thanks to the purchase of a state-of-the-art mobile health vehicle, UVA Health is now offering mobile healthcare services in two Charlottesville neighborhoods. Acquisition of the vehicle was made possible by a federal grant and private support from Dan and Angie Oakey.

“We are proud to support UVA Health’s mobile care unit, a vital step toward making healthcare accessible to all,” said Dan Oakey. “This initiative aligns perfectly with our priority of bringing essential medical services directly to underserved communities, and we are excited to see how it will positively impact lives and build healthier, stronger neighborhoods across the region.”

Staffed with clinical and ancillary teams from UVA Health and UVA School of Nursing, the unit will provide general health check-ups, care for minor illnesses and injuries, pediatric care, chronic disease management, women’s health, and lab tests. The mobile care unit is making regular, twice-a-month visits to the Fifeville and Southwood neighborhoods.
